About Us

A Boutique Marketing Agency in Calgary & Kelowna

We built Violet & Vine because we got tired of watching good businesses get sold bad marketing. We do things differently, and we think you should too.

Our Story

We started Violet & Vine because we were done doing it someone else’s way.

Between us we have close to two decades of experience from multiple marketing agencies. We’ve managed big accounts, led teams, and delivered real results for real businesses. We’ve also had to sit across from clients who were sold a bill of goods that was only designed to bring the agency profit, was never going to work, and we had to scramble to make up for false promises that we never made. We will never do that again.

If you’re here, maybe you know how most agencies work, if not, let us tell you. The model was always the same. Same templated lead magnet, same templated email follow up, same templated landing page, same automated ads strategy wasting your money with no one monitoring it, same 30-day results guarantee that never happens. The exact same strategy fired at every client regardless of where they were starting from or what they actually needed. Why? Because templates equal efficiency, and efficiency equals profit for the agency. We spent literal years executing someone else’s poor playbook and struggling to make it make sense.

So, we left. We built something we can actually be proud of with clients we genuinely want to work with, doing work we believe in. We keep our roster small so that every partnership gets real attention. We take the time upfront to audit, find the gaps, build a proper foundation, and go from there. We don’t ask what you want, we find out what you need. We don’t promise results we can’t guarantee. If we don’t know the answer, we’re not afraid tell you, and then we’ll work to figure it out.

We also made a decision early on that we wanted to build a business that gave us room to live outside of it. To take care of ourselves, spend time with our families, and actually get inspired by the world around us. Wouldn’t you know it, that’s benefitted the quality of our work. Our clients don’t need to babysit us or sit through weekly check-ins just to feel like things are moving. They hand off their marketing trusting us to do what’s right, because that’s what we do. It really is that simple.

We are people first, marketers second, and we work with clients who we genuinely want to see succeed. That part makes all the difference.

Why Choose Us

No Cookie-Cutter Playbooks

Your business isn’t generic and your marketing strategy shouldn’t be either. We start every engagement with real discovery to figure out what will actually move the needle for you specifically.

Senior Expertise, Always

You work directly with us, the founders. Not an account manager, not a junior team learning on your dime. The people who plan & scope your strategy are the same people executing it, and those people are us.

We Don’t Overpromise

Good marketing takes time to compound. We’re not afraid of that and we are upfront with you from day one. We’d rather set realistic expectations than sell you a guarantee we can’t stand behind.

Foundation First

We don’t put lipstick on a pig. If your website or online presence isn’t ready for paid traffic, we’ll fix that first. Building on a weak foundation is how marketing budgets get wasted. We’ll tell you when you’re ready for more.

A Roster We’re Proud Of

We keep our client list intentionally small. Every partnership gets our full attention, not just in the first month, but for as long as we work together. We are genuinely invested in you & your success.

The Right Fit Matters

Marketing works best when there’s trust, transparency, and a genuine working relationship on both sides. If we don’t think we’re right for each other, we’ll say so. We’d rather lose the business than do it badly.

Dani Bedry, Co-Founder

Dani spent 10 years in the non-profit sector before making the move to marketing, joining an agency in 2019 as a project manager. She worked her way up to Director of Client Services before co-founding Violet & Vine. The path from non-profit to agency to studio founder is a through line, because she’s always been drawn to work that means something.

Her specialties are website strategy, SEO, and the kind of client relationship where people actually feel heard. She’s proudly right-brained, but don’t mistake that for disorganized; there’s a quiet streak of Type A running through everything she does. She genuinely cares about the businesses she works with, and her clients tend to notice that pretty quickly.

Outside of work, Dani teaches piano and voice, which might explain the patience and the ear for what’s off-key. She loves to read, thrift, and attend any nearby event Calgary has to offer. At home you’ll find her with her husband, her 10-year-old son, and an enormous dog named Tony.

If you work with Dani, you’ll feel like she’s genuinely in your corner — because she is.

Hilary Schoettle, Co-Founder

Hilary spent 15 years in marketing before co-founding Violet & Vine, the last 10 of which were at an agency where she worked her way from account manager to VP of Operations. Before that she was in investor relations and marketing communications in finance, which is probably where the “show me the data” instinct comes from.

She’s the one who builds the systems, plans the stages, and asks why before agreeing to anything. She’s not interested in copying what worked for someone else’s business and hoping it lands for yours. She’d rather get into the numbers and figure out what actually makes sense.

Outside of work she’s training for a half marathon, skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, doing yoga, golfing, and hiking with her husband and their dog. The Okanagan lifestyle isn’t just aesthetic for her, it’s her real life.

If you work with Hilary, you’ll get her honest opinion whether you asked for it or not, and she won’t do something with your money she wouldn’t do with her own.
